New Year Vibes
As we draw 2018 to a close and welcome the new year, I want to look back and reflect on this past year. New trends in fashion, including clothing and prom wear emerged. We also began to expand our services as the Green Prom Movement, such as offering internships and working with different organizations.
This year, fashion not only expanded but also took a trip back to the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Some of the trends we saw this year were patterned pants, lots of skirts, embroidery, off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, and the colors yellow and baby pink. Overalls, in the form of dresses or pants, mom jeans, and even bell bottoms have made an appearance this year and have brought us back to previous decades of fashion. Layering t-shirts under dresses and tank tops have also found their way back in style, as well as turtle and mock neck shirts. The best way to describe the trends in fashion this year is, vintage is in!
When looking at trends for prom, this year the game was changed! Some popular styles of dresses were two pieces, mermaid-style dresses, and of course, the always elegant ball gown. Florals and velvet were popular this year, as were cutouts, and open backs. Prom dress colors always vary, but this year many different shades of blue showed up, white, pink and red were also popular.
The Green Prom Movement has also updated and upgraded this year! Starting off the year, we had a photoshoot at the Oread in Lawrence, Ks, and hosted our annual boutiques and fashion shows. This year, we also began working with North Kansas City and hosted our first fashion show there, it was a huge success! Another cool thing that we’re now offering is internships! There’s an internship for fashion, photography, social media, many more!
With new opportunities for 2019, we’re looking forward to a great year! The teen advisory board is growing as we expand our services to more areas. In 2019, we will be again hosting our annual fashion shows and boutiques. We are also so excited to be partnering with The Kansas Miss Amazing pageant organization to help provide dresses for young disabled women who are competing. Stay tuned in to our youtube channel, facebook, instagram, and monthly blogs to see where we go and what we do next!
