Green Spring Closet Cleaning
Springtime is a great time to purge the contents of your closet and make room for new great clothing items for the season. But don't forget to be green about cleaning.
An easy first step is to drag all items out and sort into catagories. Like: tops, skirts, tanks, sweaters, t-shirts, shoes, boots, etc. Then try on the items you haven't worn in a while to dertermine if they still fit and look fantastic on you or need mending. Once you have eleminated the items you no longer want or need, hang like items together and color arrange them for an eye pleasing affect. An other great tip is to hang your clothing with the hanger opening facing you.
When you return an item that you have worn return it with the hanger opening away from you.
This is a great way to visually see what you are wearing and what you aren't. When summer comes along all the hangers that are still backwards are the clothes you should probably think about getting rid of first as you didn't wear them at all in months.
When deciding where to take your clothing you have out grown and that no longer serve their purpose for you, consider seeing if a younger friend or family member would like them. Next, consider donating them to a Goodwill or Salvation Army Store or a Social Service League store. They offer gently used clothing for an affordable price. Another great green idea is to donate your clothing to a Church clothing bank. Churches donate the clothing to those in need at little or no cost. Sometimes the churches ship them overseas to third world countries and orphanages. And finally another option for your items that are still in style is to take them to a re-sale or clothing consignment shop. They give you a percentage of the resale price or sometimes a higher percentage of the resale price in store credit.
Whatever you decide to do with your old, gently used clothing, remember to donate your beautiful prom and promotion dresses to the GPM!
